Let's Go Home

Although the week in Cuba by myself with hubby was relaxing, it was also very .... quiet. Hubby had to work the entire week (so he could take 2 full weeks with the family), so there were times in his house that it was deafeningly quiet. When I tried to put the tv on or play my ipod it was almost as if it was too loud. I was too far from the beach to walk there every day, so I got to work on my tan in the backyard. So, after a week long adventure hanging out by myself with hubby, I brought him home to see the kiddos.

A night run

My third run on the island, I decided to try it at night. Mainly because hubby wanted to do a nighttime scuba dive so I had nothing better to do. No where else in the world will you be more afraid of being attacked by Banana Rats and Turkey Vultures rather than being attacked by a human being.

Proof

Just in case you wanted actual proof that I was actually in Cuba, here's the local temp at 1:30pm. Oh and notice the Commanding Officer. Captain Kirk. Enough said.

Sweet Parking Spot

No where else will you EVER find a parking spot like this one. Right in the front of the Officer's Club at GITMO, 2nd LT spot. Unfortunately 2 weeks after this picture was taken, hubby was promoted to 1LT. Actually that's FORTUNATELY!

Continuing to Run

I stayed strong to my will to run and be ready for my 5K next month. Unfortunately, in Cuba you have to time your runs just right. Or at least the northern does. There were people running in the middle of the day with the sun beating down at 85 degrees. Coming from 58 degrees the day prior, I had some acclimation to do first.

MY Cuba Adventure

Welcome to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Where the weather is always hot and sunny. Keep in mind this is the Caribbean so 20 minutes out in the sun is like one hour in Virginia. Or maybe more because I was toast after the first day (more like burned lobster).

Attention: Vacation mode

Tomorrow, the two boys and I are traveling across country on an 8-hour plane ride to visit Gramma and Pop-pop in California.

I'm insane, right? Two kids by myself on a plane for 8 hours straight?

But the positive side is that when we get off the plane, we are going to have a wonderful time! Or at least I better.

No set schedule, just a couple places that we are looking forward to visiting, and lots of fun things to do at the resort. Like a water park with a 140 foot slide that goes down the side of the mountain! Is that not cool? Also while we are there, we will be celebrating BBZ's first birthday! Already??

So, I'll elaborate on the good and not-so-good times when we return in 2 weeks.

We miss you, Florida

I wanted to share a few of my favorite photos from our trip to Florida last month. Even though I didn't have the SLR digital camera of my dreams (hint, hint hubby), our point and shoot Olympus camera took some really great shots.  I especially loved playing with the sun early in the morning to make my subject "blackened" and the rest of the background just shine.  We even made sure to take our handy-dandy little tripod (Gorilla pod which can be wrapped around anything) to catch a family shot on the beach.

We all had a great time, especially Little Man going back and forth to the beach and the pool. I think we counted five times to the pool on Mother's Day alone! Because of this experience, he's so excited about visiting the pool and the water park here everyday.

The other event he really enjoyed was a few trips to the local fire stations.  We counted three within a 10 mile radius and made sure to visit every one.  He was treated like a star, getting fire hats, pencils, coloring books, and we even made sure to buy him a genuine "Junior Fireman" shirt!

Little Man is already asking to go back.  Sticks both thumbs up in the air and says, "Florida beach!"  I have a feeling we'll be going back to this location again in the future, especially when we really need a little R&R.

I think he's ready

Next week, the hubby, Little Man, and I, and only us are going to Florida for an entire week. For the past month, we have been counting down the days until we leave for Florida. We've been marking off the days with a red marker which gets Little Man even more excited about going to "Florida Beach." And he says this with two thumbs up and a huge smile!

The other day, he was trying on goggles... obviously too big for his little head. But I think he's officially ready for Florida. What do you think?

I think so.

Four more days, Little Man.
